Operating instructions

1. Ask the patient to take a sitting or semi lying position. Measure the length of insertion of the nasogastric tube. The length is approximately the distance from the tip of the nose to the earlobe plus the distance from the earlobe to the sternal xiphoid process, plus 10-15cm as the insertion length

2. Slowly feed the nasogastric tube into the well ventilated side of the nasal cavity

3. When the nasogastric tube is inserted into the pharynx, let the patient drink water or perform swallowing movements to facilitate the smooth passage of the gastric tube into the esophagus. Continue inserting the tube until it reaches the previously recorded position

4. Determine whether the nasogastric tube has been placed in the stomach by using methods such as injecting and extracting gastric juice to determine the pH value, or observing the position of the nasogastric tube in the body under X-ray fluoroscopy

5. When the syringe extracts 5ml of water and injects it into the nasogastric tube for lubrication, then carefully remove the guide wire

6. Fix the nasogastric tube next to the nasal wing with medical tape to prevent slipping of the tube

Severe breathing difficulties, which should be avoided in patients with stenosis or infarction
